Owl Panel Petroglyph, Moab UT
30- 45 Minute Hike
Close to Town
The Owl Panel and Big Man petroglyph is one of the most well preserved piece of rock art in the Moab area, especially given its proximity to town.
The owl is well defined and has a much crisper look as compared to other panels in the area. While observing rock art, take care to never touch the petroglyphs.
In addition to the Owl, there are several other designs here. While hiking around Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, you never have to go far to find rock art.
Since this hike is very short it makes for a great winter adventure. As long as the snow is not too deep, you should have no problem completing this hike.
Though I refer this site as the Owl Panel, it is sometimes also referred to as the Big Man Panel. Although I think there may be multiple sites with the Big Man name.
To find this panel park at the Amesa Trail head parking lot and continue up the road to the start of the Amesa / Cliff Hanger Trail. You will see an alcove directly across the creek from the start of the trail, the panel in located to the left of the alcove. Use GPX file above or youtube video for exact location.
